2nd dose of Sinopharm to be administered after 4 weeks of 1st dose

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine against COVID-19 will be administered after four weeks of the first dose. 

The Maldives permitted the use of Sinopharm on March 14 and began administering it on the 22nd. Currently, the vaccine is being used as the first dose of the virus. The Maldives had received the second batch of the vaccine shipment for the second dose as well. Two batches of 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine were provided by China to the Maldives.

After the first 100,000 doses are administered as the first dose, the second batch, received last night, will be administered as the second dose after four weeks. Sinopharm is being administered to those aged 18-60.

The Maldives will also commence the second dose of the Covishield vaccine in April. The Maldives had received 200,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine, developed by Astrazeneca and Oxford University as a gift by India. The Maldives also has an agreement with Serum Institute of India, the manufacturers of the vaccine for 300,000 doses of the vaccine, out of which 100,000 doses had been received so far. 

More than 235,682 people in the Maldives had received vaccines against the virus so far.
