Maldives removed from Abu Dhabi’s green list

Maldives has been removed from the green list of Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates, meaning travellers from Maldives to Abu Dhabi will need to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival.

Countries on Abu Dhabi’s green list have been reduced from 17 to 12. Additional countries removed from the list include Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Thailand, Falkland Islands, and St Kitts and Nevis.

Meanwhile, Iceland and Bhutan have been added to the list.

Travellers from countries on the green list do not need to self-isolate once they receive a negative PCR test result, while travellers from countries that are not on the green list will need to self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival to Abu Dhabi.

The decision to remove Maldives from the list comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country in recent weeks, mainly in the capital Male’ City.

Abu Dhabi reopened for tourists in December last year.

UAE is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases and has strengthened control measures, including banning public gatherings, closing movie theaters, limiting visitors to shopping malls, and limiting customers in public pools, cafes and restaurants.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are popular destinations among Maldivian travellers and business operators.

UAE is also a key source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives.
