Minister: Vaccine arrangements to be made in resorts

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated that vaccination arrangements are to be made in resorts so that employees can get vaccinated with convenience. 

The Minister was speaking before the government-run program to vaccinate employees of the tourism industry against COVID-19 today when he said that tourism employees had played an important role in lifting the economy and had worked on the frontline of the industry. 

At first, the borders of the nation were opened without a PCR test required from arriving tourists. This was later changed so that tourists were required to present a negative 96-hour PCR test.

The Minister stated today, that vaccinations for tourism workers would be available at the closest vaccine center to the resort of employment. 

“In the future, teams would travel to bigger resorts to vaccinate workers.” Said the Minister. 

To commence the program to vaccinate tourism workers, 10,000 workers will be inoculated. The first to be inoculated from the industry was an airport representative named Thoha Ali.  

Airline crews have also been vaccinated against the virus and those traveling to resorts for entertainment purposes are also to be vaccinated.  

The Maldives commenced vaccinations on February 1. The first to be inoculated were front-line workers including health care workers and social workers.

More than 1,500 have been vaccinated so far, and the Health Ministry has stated that a further 1,000 could be vaccinated by today.
