Maldives wins award for Best Island Destination in Asia Pacific

The Maldives has been awarded the Asia Pacific’s Best Island Destination Award at the Travel Weekly Asia Reader’s Choice Awards 2020. 

The awards are handed out in recognition of the tourism industry partners of the Asia Pacific and this year’s award ceremony was held virtually. 

Awards were given in 57 different categories, and upon winning the award, the Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC) said that the award was a testament to the popularity of the Maldives in the tourism industry despite the stagnation caused on the industry due to COVID-19.

MMPRC and Visit Maldives are carrying out a multitude of marketing campaigns across the Asia Pacific and other regions of the globe as the Maldives looks to bounce back from the pandemic virus. They include campaigns run in China which is one of the biggest sources of tourists to the Maldives. 

The Maldives also won the World’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards 2020, which is known as the Oscars of the tourism industry.
