Parliament approves financial assistance to Dr Afrasheem

The Parliament has passed the motion to provide financial assistance to the family of the late Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, who was killed on the night of 1 October.

The Parliament approved today, as agreed by the General Purpose Committee, to divide Dr Afrasheem’s salary of MVR42,500 and living allowance of MVR20,000 equally among the four members of the family.

Forty five members voted in favour of this motion, while three members abstained. No member voted against it.

Afrasheem’s wife, Guraisha Mohamed will receive one fourth until she remarries, and the children Ayyoob Afrasheem, Rumaisha Afrasheem and Ayyash Afrasheem will receive one fourth each until they turn 18. The family will also receive health insurance.

The motion to provide financial assistance to the family of the deceased was submitted by Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed, and supported by Nilandhoo MP Abdul Muhsin. It was sent to the General Purpose Committee last Thursday.
