Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has met with India's Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla today.
Secretary Shringla is in the Maldives on a three-day visit and has met senior state officials of the Maldives. This is the first visit by a senior Indian government official to the Maldives in 2020.
Secretary Shringla noted the efforts by the Maldives to develop the tourism industry as well as the efforts to designate the Maldives as a safe tourist destination which were succeeding. He also commended the turn of the industry towards recovery after COVID-19 hit the industry hard.
Minister Mausoom and Secretary Shringla also spoke on the air travel bubble established between the two nations. Currently, travel is permitted from five cities of India to the Maldives. The number of Indian tourist arrivals to the Maldives is also slowly picking up.
