Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has hailed the success and achievements made by the Maldives since the nation reopened its borders after a four-month-long closure due to COVID-19.
The Minister tweeted last night that the Maldives was slowly but certainly making progress in terms of recovery. The Maldivian tourism industry, the biggest industry in the nation, was hit hard due to the pandemic virus.
The Minister also thanked the Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and the team at the ministry for their important contributions to tourism recovery initiatives.

The Maldives reopened its borders on July 15 and has since received more than 31,000 tourists. The nation had received a total of 382,760 tourists before the border closure in March.
This was an average of 4,206 tourists per day. So far in 2020, the Maldives has received 414,648 tourists in total. Minister Mausoom said that the target was to bring in more than 500,000 tourists in 2020.
