No confidence in ACC due to flop of ventilator scandal case

Members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have begun questioning the validity and quality of investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after the Prosecutor General’s Office decided against charges in the ventilator scandal of the Health Ministry. 

The PG Office decided so after a lack of evidence in the ACC investigation into the scandal. The ACC had requested 11 officials including the Health Minister Abdulla Ameen to be charged.

MDP members who have a supermajority in the parliament have even announced a motion of no confidence against ACC members in order to remove them.

North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy said that the ACC had rushed the case. MP Imthiyaz said that the decision by PG against charging in the case showed that, “the quality of the investigation was evident when the ACC dropped the case to the PG Office on their way to the parliament after being summoned for 11 o’clock that day.” 

South Galolhu MP Mickail Naseem also echoed the words regarding the quality of the investigation. 

“No confidence in the ACC. Will propose to remove them.” Said MP Mickail.

The PG Office had said today that it had declined the case after analysis.
