President of Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdullah has said that all necessary action must be taken to ensure that the murderers of renowned scholar and Ungoofaaru MP Afrasheem Ali are duly punished for their crime.

Speaking on DhiTV last night, Imran said that the crime must be thoroughly investigated to find the people who are responsible, and that efforts must be made to eliminate the forces that drove them to commit this crime.

“They could have been driven by religion, or it could have been part of a political agenda, or they could have been using something.

“We have to find out the reasons behind such remorseless acts in this society, and eliminate them. The way to do that is by establishing Islamic Sharia,” he said.

He said that followers of Islam, who respect and protect the principles of Islam, would never commit such a crime.

Imran said that this is the highest level of heartlessness that can exist in a society.

“This act shows extreme callousness, and the lowest level or discipline that could possibly exist in a society,” he said.

Imran also stressed that security should be provided to senior officials of the government and members of parliament; however, he noted that at the level of things in the Maldivian society currently, every Maldivian citizen is in need of security.
