Second case of COVID-19 from Thinadhoo boat

A second individual from a boat that travels between the southern island of G. Dh. Thinadhoo and Male’ City has tested positive for COVID-19. 

An individual from the boat, named as “Dheraha”, had tested positive for the virus earlier. The second individual is a contact of the first. It is not certain whether this is a separate cluster, said Thinadhoo Council President Ali Amjad. 

Amjad said that the second individual had not disembarked to the island and that contact tracing on the individual was now underway. A total of nine individuals are on the boat.

The first individual had provided misinformation to the authorities leading to a very high number of contacts from the man. The boat also travels to other islands within the atoll.

The island of Thinadhoo, which has a large population, is under monitoring mechanisms.
