The hearing scheduled for today against former Minister of Defence Thalhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaan and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Colonel Mohamed Ziyad, pertaining to the illegal arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed, has been cancelled.

Spokesperson for the Department of Judicial Administration Latheefa Gasim said today that the hearing had to be cancelled due to one of the three judges presiding over this case taking sick leave after being taken ill.

Thalhath and Ziyad are being charged under article 81 of the Penal Code, for the arrest of an innocent person.

The Penal Code stipulates that any person convicted of this crime may be sentenced to prison or exile for not more than three years, or fined by an amount not exceeding MVR2,000.

Hulhumale’ Court has ordered the Police to produce former President Mohamed Nasheed in Court on Sunday at 16:00, for the trial pertaining to the unconstitutional arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed.
