10 coronavirus patients in ICUs, 2 on ventilators

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) announced on Wednesday that 10 of the coronavirus patients who have been hospitalized are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, and that two of the patients are on ventilators.

In a press conference on Wednesday night, HEOC spokesperson and epidemiologist Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that 150 coronavirus patients are being treated in hospitals.

They include five patients in the ICU on the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital, five patients in the ward on the 16th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital, one patient in the ward at the medical facility in B. Eydhafushi, and 139 patients in the Hulhumale’ medical facility.

Dr. Nazla said that five of the patients in Hulhumale’ medical facility are being treated in the ICU, and that two of them are being treated on ventilators.

Maldives is experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases following the relaxation of the lockdown in the greater Male’ region in July, contributing to a surge in hospitalized patients.

Maldives has 4,366 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 143 new cases recorded on Wednesday. 2,884 of the patients have since recovered, while 21 have died from complications.

The country now has 2,461 active cases.
