Disclosure of the report by the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances which included incomplete investigations led to the obstruction of justice in cases, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has said.

The report was publicized by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. The report was available on the parliament website.

Speaking in a program of Raajje TV last night, Commissioner Hameed expressed discontent over the publication of the report.

“I was personally disappointed with that. That is the presentation of parts of the draft report of investigations incomplete to the public. We don’t have to conduct these investigations to sensationalize things. Not to gain a certain advantage.” Said the Commissioner who added that the investigation should be to obtain justice for the families of victims.

“So, I believe that there are obstructions to justice.” Said the Commissioner.

He said that it was not the best way to disclose findings of the investigation by the DDCOM because it included confidential witness statements, which in turn resulted in difficulty in proceeding with the investigation.

“We believe that things did not happen as we wished. However, I still believe that we can obtain justice through the state by completing the investigation.” Said the Commissioner.

The DDCOM has so far formulated a report on the case of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan. Some individuals were barred from leaving the country due to the findings of the report. However, charges are yet to be brought against these individuals.
