MVR3m assigned for live broadcast of Parliament Committee meetings

MVR3 million has been included in the estimated Parliament budget for next year, for the installation of cameras in two Parliament Committee rooms.

The decision was made to install cameras in Committee rooms 1 and 3, by the Parliament’s General Committee after reviewing a proposal sent by a technical team.

Speaking at a General Committee meeting, Director of Parliament Budget Section Ibrahim Rasheed said that the cameras currently in the Parliament chamber will be transferred to the Committee rooms, resulting in the installation of new, upgraded cameras in the Parliament chamber.

The proposal states that the live feed of the Committee meetings will be released to broadcasting media via a broadcasting room established at the Parliament Office.

The estimated Parliament budget for next year also includes MVR7.5 million for the employment of 27 additional staff following the establishment of a new Parliament building.

The estimated Parliament budget for next year, at MVR277 million, is 20 percent more than the budget for this year, which is MVR230 million.
