Movie star Jumayyil says ''no comment'' to allegations of child abuse

Prosecutor General’s Office has said that charges were not brought against local movie star Jumayyil Nimal over the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

Details of the alleged encounter have been published on social media by an individual who claims that she was the victim of the abuse from Jumayyil. The woman is a cousin of Jumayyil and the encounter occurred in 2016 when she was 16.

She alleged that influence played a role in charges not being brought against the movie star. The PG back then was Aishath Bisham who could not be reached for comment.

PG office said that Jumayyil was charged with the possession of pornographic material, which was rejected from the court due to procedural issues. No charges were brought against Jumayyil for sexual abuse.

PG Shameem said to Sun that charges were not brought against Jumayyil due to a lack of evidence. He said that the decision would be reviewed to see if fresh charges could be filed.

“The victim requests for a review. So, we are revising the decision. Whether it was the correct decision, we will review and decide.” Said Shameem.

When contacted by Sun for a comment, Jumayyil said “no comment.”

The woman who accuses Jumayyil, has said that the ordeal had left her with psychological issues. She is even receiving treatment for depression and anxiety.
