Ibraa appeals Civil Court decision in his case against MP Muththalib for defamation

Ibrahim “Ibraa” Ismail, Special Advisor to the President and prominent leader of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appealed a decision made by the Civil Court in a case Ibraa had filed against MP Ibrahim Muththalib for defamation.

The Civil Court decided that Ibrahim Muththalib, a noted opposition figure, could not be ordered to apologize to Ibraa for his statements made on DhiTV on 7th June 2010.

Muththalib had said that Mandhu College, owned by Ibraa, was registered without the due procedure, and that the building of former Malé English School was given to Ibraa without any bidding, and also, that the Education Fund gave out a loan to Mandhu College illegally on the orders of the President himself.

The first hearing of the appeal case was held today at the High Court of the Maldives, and the presiding Judge concluded today’s hearing saying that if no further clarifications are deemed necessary after the considerations to be made, a decision would be made in the next hearing.
