A Maldivian repatriation flight to transport a large number of Bangladeshi nationals in the Maldives has been canceled without a specific date.
National Emergency Operations Center, last night announced that a Maldivian flight was set to depart to Bangladesh today, carrying more than 200 Bangladeshi nationals. The flight was also set to transport 15 Bangladeshi nationals who had not been able to travel on a prior flight due to documentation issues.
Sun has now been informed that the flight delayed for tomorrow morning has now been canceled altogether. The cancelation was caused by the severe weather experienced in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka due to Cyclone Amphan which is now a category five hurricane.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall on Wednesday or Thursday. Meteorologists have warned that it could wreak havoc in Bangladesh and coastal areas of India which are in the direct path of the cyclone.
