A Maldivian repatriation flight to transport a large number of Bangladeshi nationals in the Maldives has been delayed for tomorrow.
National Emergency Operations Center, last night announced that a Maldivian flight was set to depart to Bangladesh, carrying more than 200 Bangladeshi nationals. The flight will also transport 15 Bangladeshi nationals who had not been able to travel on a prior flight due to documentation issues.
Sun has learned that the flight will now depart tomorrow morning. The delay was caused by the severe weather experienced in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka due to Cyclone Amphan.
Cyclone Amphan has now been categorized as equivalent to a category five hurricane, which meteorologists have warned could wreak havoc to Bangladesh and coastal areas of India when it makes landfall sometime on Wednesday or Thursday.
The Maldives is also experiencing severe weather as an indirect effect of the cyclone.
