Inmates, guards in Hinmafushi prison being tested for coronavirus

Health authorities, on Saturday, began collecting random samples from inmates and guards in the Asseyri Prison located in K. Hinmafushi to screen for the new coronavirus.

Maldives Correctional Service confirmed the testing was being conducted in collaboration with the National Emergency Operations Center.

It comes after random testing within the drug rehabilitation center in Hinmafushi picked up three cases of COVID-19 infections.

Random testing had been conducted within the largest prison in Maldives - the Maafushi Prison - last week. All 38 samples from the prison had come back negative.
