Maldives Police Service has announced that three out of the five men that escaped from a quarantine facility have been apprehended.
The men escaped from the Herathere quarantine facility in Addu City, yesterday evening. One of the men was earlier apprehended and Police stated that two others were apprehended later on.
Police stated that the search for the remaining two was still underway.
They were placed in quarantine under the powers granted to the Director-General of Public Health by the law. The Director can order the quarantine of any individual suspected of being infected with an infectious disease during a public health emergency.
Such orders are enforced by the Police, and Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has previously warned that violations of such orders would be met with criminal charges.
