14 with symptoms in contact with positive case in Male' moved to isolation facility

The Health Protection Agency has tweeted that 14 individuals who exhibited symptoms of Covid-19 and were in contact with the first positive case in Male' City are being moved to an isolation facility.

HPA tweeted that the 14 individuals were being moved to the isolation facility in Hulhule' Island Hotel. Health Protection Agency (HPA), announced earlier today that 54 people who had close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 from Male’ had been isolated.

The test results of 10 people who were in direct contact with individual had been received as negative, according to the authorities.

Two cases of Covid-19 has been tested positive in Male' City so far. The two cases, a mother and child were tested positive today. It was first confirmed earlier today that the mother had tested positive, making her the first positive virus case in Male' City. The authorities announced tonight that the second case who is the child of the first case, a toddler, had also tested positive for the virus.

The government has previously stated that the first case confirmed in Male’ had no travel history or contact with another positive case. Authorities were conducting contact tracing on the individual.

The first case, had presented herself to the flu clinic in Male’ City yesterday. How she came into contact with the virus is being investigated by the authorities.

A lockdown of 24-hours has been imposed on the capital. The alert levels in Male’ City have been raised to level 4: Red Alert after the city confirmed the first case of Covid-19.

The island of K. Kaashidhoo is also under monitoring mechanisms after an individual in contact with the first case had traveled to the island.

The Maldives has so far confirmed 22 cases of the virus. They are 15 foreigners and seven locals. Four locals are being treated for the virus currently while all others, except two tourists who departed from the Maldives, have made full recoveries. The two tourists had departed after completing their quarantine periods before their test results were received as positive.
