Happy Market, a local resort operator has announced a decision to provide employees with paid leaves due to the current situation with the Covid-19 pandemic that has seen several resorts in the country close up and the dismissals of countless resort employees.
A Happy Market official informed “Sun” that resort operations of the company would be temporarily suspended for two months from April 4.
The company operates four resorts in the country. The paid leave by the company will see employees earn their salaries during the suspended period.
The Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) has previously stated that 58 resorts have sent employees on no-pay leaves due to the virus situation.
The Labor Relations Authority has also stated that it has received complaints of reduction in wages and unfair dismissals due to the situation with the virus. The authority has stated that such actions are a violation of the law.
