Health Protection Agency (HPA) has imposed restrictive measures on an additional resort and a cargo vessel over possible COVID-19 cases.
At a press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center on Saturday night, spokesperson Mabrooq Azeez announced HPA had imposed monitoring measures on the resort island LUX* North Male Atoll Resort & Villas (K. Olhuhali) and the cargo vessel VSG Gloria.
The measures were imposed on LUX* North Male Atoll Resort & Villas after a Maldivian national at the resort developed symptoms consistent with the disease, while the measures were imposed on VSG Gloria after a foreign national on board the vessel developed symptoms consistent with the disease.
Both have been placed under self-isolation and are being tested for the virus.
HPA has also initiated contact tracing as a precautionary measure.
“And Ark Nobel Safari, Taj Exotica, Filitheyo Island Resort and The Residence Maldives at Dhigurah remain under monitoring until contact tracing is complete. And Island Safari also remains under monitoring. And My Star is also under monitoring,” said Mabrooq, regarding other resorts and vessels being monitored by HPA.
Meanwhile, restrictions have been lifted from Cinnamon Hakuraa Huraa Maldives Resort, Grand Park Kodhipparu Maldives, JA Manafaru Maldives Resort and Maahaa Safari after the people there who developed symptoms consistent with disease tested negative.
16 have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, including a 38-year-old Maldivian male who travelled back from the UK, marking the first Maldivian national to be infected with the virus. The figure also includes two Italian nationals whose test results were received after they departed from Maldives.
11 have since recovered.
