Islamic Ministry, on Saturday, announced an extension to the suspension on mass prayers in mosques in the Male’ region and resort islands.
Islamic Ministry announced in a statement this afternoon that the suspension has been extended to Asr prayer on April 4.
The initial suspension order, had been effective or the ten days from March 18 to 28. The extension had come just as the initial order had been about to expire.
Friday prayer will also remain suspended during the period.
While mass prayers will not be held during the period, mosques will remain open and individual worshippers may go to mosques to perform prayers.
The suspension applies only to Male’ City, and its suburbs Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’, and resort islands.
The decision to suspend mass prayers was made following discussions with local Islamic scholars and members of the Fatwa Council.
