The government has announced that 51 medical students studying abroad are set to return to the country to assist the country to overcome the situation with the Covid-19 virus.
Government spokesperson Mabrook Azeez made the announcement in a news conference tonight. He said that 51 doctors in Nepal had registered to come back to the Maldives when the government made an announcement to do so. They will come back starting next Tuesday.
33 doctors had also returned under government expenses from Nepal previously. 10 had arrived on their own expenses and will undergo the mandatory 14-day period of quarantine.
IGMH had also made a request for medical professionals that wished to return to the field to do so following the situation with the virus. Calls for such professionals to return to the field have also been increased in the public.
The Maldives has confirmed 13 cases of the virus so far. Out the 13, three have made full recoveries and the country has not reported a positive case for more than a week now.
