DRP will not be involved in impulsive arguments: Thasmeen

Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that DRP would not make impulsive, angry, emotionally-charged statements against Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) having been awarded to GMR, without contemplating the consequences of reclaiming the airport from GMR.

Thasmeen made this statement at a DRP rally in R. Alifushi last night.

Thasmeen’s statement comes at a time when the political groups which commenced the movement “Maldivians’ airport back to Maldivians”, have been pointing out DRP’s absence from the press conference held to announce this movement.

“Maldivians’ airport back to Maldivians” is a collaborative effort by six political parties and the Civil Society Coalition.

Thasmeen said that DRP was had voiced its opinions against the idea, and made several efforts to prevent the award of INIA to GMR by the previous government.

He noted that regardless of how much people voice their anger now, INIA has been awarded to GMR; and any issues surrounding the legitimacy of the agreement can only be resolved through a Court process.
