Samples from 2 resorts test negative for Covid-19

Samples taken from Meeru Island Resort and Sheraton Maldives have been tested negative for the Covid-19 disease, HPA has announced.

Two samples were taken from Sheraton Maldives after two foreigners in the resort exhibited symptoms of the disease. HPA stated that the monitoring mechanisms placed on the island were lifted after the results came back as negative and the resort has now been reopened.

Tests on 12 people from Meeru Island Resort also came back as negative. The island was under monitoring mechanisms after suspected cases were identified in the resort and HPA announced that the resort was reopened after the test results came back as negative.

Two more resorts have been temporarily closed after suspected cases. They are aaaVeee Nature's Paradise in Dh. Atoll and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru in B. Atoll.

The country has announced a 30-day period of public health emergency to effectively contain the virus which has had 13 confirmed cases so far.

  • Kuredu Island Resort: 5
  • Sandies Bathala Resort: 2
  • Kuramathi Island Resort: 2
  • Anantara Dhigu Maldives: 2
  • Island Safari 1 (Safari boat): 2

All confirmed cases of the virus in the country are in stable condition.
