MP Shaheem draws similarities with Male' and Palestine

South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem has stated that the residents of the congested capital Male’ city are obedient and are in the same situation as Palestinians.

Israel has occupied Palestinian lands after the 1976 Arab war and has virtually overtaken the lands of West Bank. Israel has also established several settlements considered illegal under international law in these occupied lands.

MP Shaheem stated that the residents of Male were in the same situation due to migration from other atolls to the capital. He was speaking about the fact that migrating locals obtaining housing from the capital. MP Shaheem blamed the locals migrating to the capital as the reason for those native to Male failing to get housing.

“After all the reclamation projects, beloved citizens from across the country are relocated here, while the residents of Male’ remain where they are. So, the situation is very much like the crisis in Palestine.” said the MP who represents a constituency of the capital.

He then stated that the residents of Male’ were obedient and had full faith in their leaders to make the right decisions. MP Shaheem noted that the administration of the current President would see the residents of Male’ “blossom” with happiness and housing schemes.

“This is an island for the people of Male’. The honorable and beloved natives of Male’. Even if the island is capital or not, this is an island of those who are native to it.” said MP Shaheem.

MP Shaheem noted that the laws did not allow for those native to Male to obtain land from any other atoll in the country. The government does not issue land from Male’ to anyone anymore and the plots in Hulhumale are also being sold. There are no restrictions placed on locals from buying land in islands or the capital.
