President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has opened the Resource Recovery and Waste Management Centre in Ga. Vilingili, established by businessman Mohamed Ali Janah for the people of the island.
Janah said that the facility will solve waste management problems faced by the people of Vilingili as well as nearby resorts.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Vilingili School, President Waheed said that all islands in the Maldives are in urgent need of several similar basic services, and advised wealthy individuals to consider Janah an exemplary figure and urged them to contribute to those areas, instead of leaving it entirely up to the government to cater to those basic needs of the people.
Janah said that the Waste Management Centre in Vilingili required an investment of about MVR1 million, and assured that he will also provide the vehicles necessary to transport waste.
