India is set to donate a fast interceptor craft to the Maldives.
The vessel, used in operations at sea is an extremely fast craft and will increase the capability of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coastguard in its operations to patrol the Maldivian economic zone, as well as preventing unlawful activities carried out in the territorial waters of the country.
The craft donated by India was built in Goa in India and has a length of 27 meters. The vessel is set to be handed over in the latter days of this month.
Fast interceptor crafts are usually bulletproof and impermeable craft and are not designated for passenger transport. MNDF coastguard ship “Huravee” was also provided by India. The craft was delivered on April 16, 2006, and has a length of 46 meters.
