Maleeh: Working on blocking Facebook page promoting Islamophobia

Communication Minister Maleeh Jamaal has stated that work to block a Facebook page accused of posting profanities about Islam is underway.

A letter was also received by the Communications Ministry from the Police requesting the page be blocked. The Communication Authority of Maldives has now been asked to block the page promoting Islamophobia.

"It is a difficult task to block a page. It can be accessed by another URL as soon as you block it." said the Minister.

The Minister also stated that requests have been made to Facebook to block the page since it violated Facebook regulations regarding hate speech. 

"We are hoping that Facebook will also block the page," said the Minister.

While work is being carried out to block this page, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated at the UN yesterday that constructive steps will be taken to stop the spread of extremism through social media platforms.
