Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid arrived in China on his first official visit to the country since assuming office.
Shahid arrived in Beijing this Tuesday afternoon and has announced that he was looking forward to meeting his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi for l discussions aimed at accelerating the diplomatic ties between Maldives and China.

Shahid, during his visit, is also scheduled for meetings with the Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) DJ Pandian, and President of President of BUCG (Beijing Urban Construction Group) International Li Daosong.
The Foreign Minister is accompanied in his official visit by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Director of Communications Miuvaan Mohamed, and Assistant Director Maryam Bassama Farooq.
Speaking to Sun in a recent interview regarding his visit, Shahid said the Maldivian government planned on reinforcing its ties with China and exploring new avenues for mutual benefit.
Shahid also said that he expected his visit to speed up the development projects initiated by China in Maldives.
