Female nominees for SC approved by parliament

The parliament has approved the two female nominees for the Supreme Court of Maldives Dr. Esmeralda Zahir and Ms. Aishath Shujoon.

62 members of the parliament voted to approve the two nominees while one voted to against and one member abstained. The two nominees who were recommended by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were approved by the Judiciary Committee of the parliament last Tuesday. The Committee had also interviewed the two candidates.

Both nominees had previously served as a judge on the High Court.
