The family of journalist Ahmed Rilwan who went missing five years ago has called for the people involved in impeding the investigation to be punished according to the law.

Presidential Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances confirmed in a news conference yesterday that Rilwan had been kidnapped and forced into a red car near his residence. He was then taken to a dinghy which in turn left for a boat somewhere out on the ocean.Rilwan was killed on the boat by members of an Al Qaeda affiliate in the Maldives, according to the evidence obtained by the Commission.

President of the Commission, Suood also stated in yesterday's press conference that the Commission had obtained evidence regarding that former President Abdulla Yameen and Vice President Ahmed Adeeb had tried to impede the investigation into Rilwan's disappearance and sent police on wild goose chases.

The family of Rilwan stated in a statement today that the Commission had revealed the information after divulging it to the family and that the family wishes to see legal action against those involved in the matter.

The family also noted that the information made public yesterday has resulted in the family and the members of the commission receive threats and called on the government to protect them.
