National Quran Competition commences with 1200 participants

The 33rd National Quran Competition has commenced in the Islamic Center last night with 1273 taking part in this year's competition.

The ceremony to commence the competition was honored by Vice President Faisal Naseem. The Vice President stated that the fact that the Maldives had to depend on foreign qaris' during months such as Ramadan was something to think about. He also urged the country to find a way to change this.

The Vice President also noted that Maldivians regularly take part in Quran recital competitions internationally. Substituting the foreign qari's that the country brings in every Ramadan could be done extremely easily is enough effort is made, stated the Vice President

He also urged parents to work hard on ensuring that their children learned and recited the Quran and its meanings. 

This is the highest number of participants in such a competition in the country and the first time that the competition will be conducted in two venues as well. The competition will be held in the Islamic Center and the at the Center for Holy Quran.
