Heads of regional legislative bodies arrive in Maldives for summit

Heads of regional legislative bodies have begun arriving in Maldives for the 4th South Asian Speaker’s Summit on Sustainable Development Goals scheduled to being on Sunday.

The two-day summit is scheduled to be held in the capital, Male’ City.

Speaker of the Parliament of Afghanistan, Rahman Rahmani; Speaker of Lok Sabha – Lower House of Indian Parliament, Om Birla; Secretary-General of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Martin Chungong; and Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury have already arrived in Maldives.

Others scheduled to attend the summit includes President of IPU, Gabriela Cuevas Barron; Speaker of the Parliament of Bhutan, Wangchuk Namgyel; Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Pakistan, Qasim Khan Suri; and Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Karu Jayasuriya.

The 4th South Asian Speaker’s Summit is jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Maldivian Parliament. Maldives will be represented at the summit by Speaker of Maldivian Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed.
