Military officer accused of sexually assaulting young woman

The police have launched an investigation into the case of a military officer accused of sexually assaulting a young woman during the Eid festivities at an island.

A police spokesperson confirmed the case was reported to the agency at 7:50 pm on Wednesday.

According to the spokesperson, the sexual assault is reported to have taken place during a color festival held at a southern atoll on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect was identified as a 31-year-old male, and the female was identified as a 19-year-old woman.

Sun has been informed the suspect in question is a military sergeant.

The case is under investigation by the local police station.
