Government will no longer discuss how the government changed: Dr Jameel

Minister of Home Affairs Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the government will no longer discuss with any party, the issue of how the government changed.

Dr Jameel said at a press conference held by three Ministers yesterday that the government will not entertain requests or advice by former President Mohamed Nasheed or international groups to discuss how the government changed.

The Home Minister assured that he will not hesitate in taking the necessary action to ensure protection and safety for the people of Maldives; and that he will address, within the limits of the Constitution, the issues which require addressing.

He went on to say that the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) has revealed to the world that Nasheed is a liar.

“Until today, Nasheed has been going around giving interviews on behalf of the Maldivian people to various groups such as the BBC Hardtalk and democratic forums. Even after he resigned, he was lying and telling them that he was forced to resign,” Dr Jameel said.

The Minister expressed hope that Nasheed would no longer be given the chance to lie to the international community.

“We suggested this to the Commonwealth and other international bodies earlier, and they have been studying our claims. But now, the decision has been made by an independent commission which included international judges and lawyers, that Nasheed violated the country’s laws and Constitution,” Dr Jameel said.
