An MDP parliamentarian has submitted an emergency motion to the Parliament over lack of investigation into various unconstitutional and unlawful actions, embezzlement and other transgressions by the previous administration during its five years in office.
The emergency motion was presented to the Parliament this Wednesday morning by Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed (Wadde).
Presenting the motion, Waheed said that the delays in criminal trials of former government officials was a matter of huge public concern.
He noted that some of the allegations against former government officials included major crimes such as embezzlement and money laundering.
“It is the right of each and every Maldivian citizen to get answers for the record level of embezzlement, treason and corruption, the disruption to the rule of governance in Maldives, the hijacking of the Parliament, and the arrest of the Chief Justice and other justices of the [Supreme] court removing the very roof, in addition to various other unconstitutional and unlawful actions carried out during President Yameen’s administration,” said Waheed.
The emergency motion has been accepted into the Parliament, and is currently under debate.
