Islamic Ministry begins collecting Zakat al-Fitr

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun collecting Zakat al-Fitr for the Islamic year 1440.

A media official from Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ismail Afrah reports to ‘Sun’ that the office began accepting Fitr al-Zakat this Tuesday morning.

Collection of Fitr al-Zakat is scheduled to close on 28th of Ramadan (June 2).

Those wish to offer Fitr al-Zakat need to visit the ministry headquarters between 9:30 am and 1 pm on weekdays.

Residents of Vilimale’ need to offer their Fitr al-Zakat to the collection point set up at the Vilimale’ Unit of the Male’ City Council; residents of Hulhumale’ need to offer it to the collection point sent up at the Hulhumale’ Community Center; and collection of Fitr al-Zakat in cities and islands outside of Male’ City will be arranged by respective councils.

Fitr al-Zakat per person is the value of 2.4 kilos of the staple product the person has used on a regular basis throughout the year.

  • Regular rice: MVR 15
  • Thailand white rice: MVR 45
  • Basmati rice: MVR 95
  • Red rice: MVR 75
  • Regular flour: MVR 16
  • Wholemeal wheat flour: MVR 60

The set rate for zakat in other islands will be determined by the councils.
