Main opposition party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has appointed MP-elect of Th. Guraidhoo, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon; former Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu; and Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam as deputy leaders of the party.

Ghassan, Muizzu and Shiyam were nominated to the vacant positions by the party’s leader, former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Their appointments were finalized during the party council meeting held last Saturday night.

Interim Leader of PPM’s ally, People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla has issued a tweet congratulating them on their appointment.

“I wish more achievements to the party under this new leadership,” added Abdul Raheem.

PPM had elected four deputy leaders during its extraordinary congress on September 28, 2014. They are:

  • Abdul Raheem Abdulla
  • Mohamed Saeed, former Economic Minister
  • Moosa Zameer, Tourism Minister
  • Aishath Azima Shakoor, Former Legal Affairs Minister of President’s Office

Both Abdul Raheem and Saeed later joined PNC as serve as Interim Leader and Interim Deputy Leader, respectively.
