President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the installation of a water and sewerage system can be done for MVR27 million, a cost MVR 47 million lower spent on the same work by the previous administration.
Speaking in the ceremony held in Male’ this Thursday night, President Solih said that his government would not betray the trust of the people or misuse the money of the people. He said that the publication of financial statistics by the Finance ministry is proof for this.
He stated that the former government misused its power which resulted in loss for the nation. Solih took example from money spent on the installation of water and sewerage systems by the former government.
“While the former government spent MVR 70 million to install water and sewerage systems, we now know that only MVR 27 million can be spent to install the same water and sewerage systems,” Said President Solih.
He also highlighted that the distribution of flats by the former government was unjust. He said that works are being done to identify those flats that were awarded unjustly and will be brought to just.
President Solih announced that housing will be provided to those who are in need of it justly by his government.
“Hopefully all those who are in need of housing will be provided good housing by the end of my five year presidency. We will do it fairly and transparently,” stated President Solih.
Solih has criticized the former government by saying that they spent more than needed on their projects on numerous occasions. He took the Sina-Male’ Bridge and Dharumavantha Hospital as prime examples of these actions.
“How we have proves within the few days of the government, this government is going to be a government that will bring development and prosperity to all the areas of the nation. We will be a just government for the citizens,” Said the President.
