Man driving child around on motorcycle basket identified as a police officer

Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation following the case which emerged of a man driving a toddler around Male’ City on the basket of a motorcycle.

Video of the incident went viral over the social media last Tuesday.

Maldives Police Service confirms reports the suspect in the case is a police officer.

It reports the case is under investigation by the Police Professional Standard Command and the Family and Child Protection Department.

MPS is also collaborating with Transport Authority to suspend the driving license of the officer.

“And the case of child endangerment is under investigation by the Family and Child Protection Department. This agency condemns reckless driving which endangers the lives of children and adults,” said MPS.

The MPS provided assurance it will take measures against perpetrators of such crimes. And appealed to the public adhere to road safety regulations.

The child appears to be somewhere between one and one-and-a-half years of age.
