Umar Naseer, the Interim Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), has said that the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI), created to probe the downfall of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government on 7 February, will not state in its upcoming report that the government was changed through a coup.
Umar said in his speech at the PPM function held at Imaduddin School last night, that the recent report publicised by the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) also suggested that no coup was conducted.
“I can bet that the CNI will not state in its report that the government was changed through a coup. Members of MDP can come to Male’ and create unrest if they want. There is no reason for anyone to be worried about CNI’s report, because it will be the same as HRCM’s report,” Umar said.
Umar also said last night that Nasheed requested to meet with him prior to his resignation, however Umar made the decision not to meet Nasheed based on the advice of his associates.
Umar also talked about the illegal activities of Nasheed mentioned in HRCM’s recent report.
