MPS builds career path program to help educational development of officers

Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz has said that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) would soon launch a career path program under which every individual police officer would be given the opportunity to study for a degree.

Riyaz’s announcement of the new program came in his address last night at Iskandharu Koshi, in the ceremony held to give away certificates to those who completed the 21st Police Recruit Training Course.

Riyaz said that the program would be established at the MPS and that under the program officers would have the opportunity to achieve university degrees in various fields. He also expressed hope that all police officers would use the chance.

The Commissioner did not give any details about the program.

Speaking about the career path program, Police Media Official, Inspector of Police Hassan Haneef told Sun last night that the program would be conducted under a separate institution to be created within the MPS. He also said that the new institution would offer degree programs for the public as well. He also said that a ceremony would soon be held to launch the program.

In his address, Commissioner Riyaz noted that the MPS already conducted various courses in a number of fields to help the professional development of officers.

The Commissioner pleaded all the newly recruited officers to be steadfast in performing their duties as police officers, and said that the police should behave towards anyone among the people as if dealing with a close relative.

“You must remember that everyone you encounter anywhere in any situation is a member of this society; either a mother, or a father, or a son, or a daughter, or a sister or a brother. You must deal with him or her as if he or she is a family member of your own. I plead you to deal with all the people with fairness, justice, and kindness”, said Commissioner Riyaz.
