Nasheed had to resign due to his own mistakes: Defence Minister

Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed had to resign as a result of his own mistakes, and that this should be understood by the people of the Maldives.

Nazim made this statement at a press conference held at VTV studio, after the ceremony to launch a book by Qaumee Party on the former President’s anti-democratic and illegal activities.

Nazim said that there is evidence to prove that Nasheed had to resign due to his own mistakes.

“It is very important that the people are informed of the truth about to how this happened. It must be protected for the sake of the country’s history, and passed on to future generations,” Nazim said.

Nazim thanked the President of Qaumee Party and Special Advisor to the President Dr Hassan Saeed for writing the book “Democracy betrayed behind the mask of the island President”.

Secretary General of Qaumee Party Abdullah Ameen said that the book talks about reasons why Nasheed had to resign, such as interfering with the country’s judicial system and Parliament, and his efforts to destroy the values of Islam in the Maldives.
