A government official has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed had suggested to President Dr Mohamed Waheed via foreign diplomats, that President of Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdullah and Interim Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Umar Naseer should not participate in the peace talks.
The official told Sun Online that Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) reasons for making this suggestion are unclear.
Neither Nasheed nor MDP has confirmed that such a proposition was put forward.
The discussions held between political parties to resolve the current political unrest have so far not been productive.
President Dr Mohamed Waheed told reporters last Saturday after his visit to Saudi Arabia that he had informed the Moderator of the All-party-talks Ahmed Mujtaba that he is prepared to participate in the peace talks, provided that MDP stops harassing the Police, MNDF, and senior officials of the government.
