Leader of the PPM Parliamentary Group, the MP for Vilimale’ constituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, has said that the Elections Commission does not want to have an opposition party in the Maldives.

In a tweet sent out today, MP Nihan criticized the President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef, and called to put an end to his efforts to dissolve any opposition parties.

Elections Commission made a request today asking PPM to clarify the recipient for the letters from the commission.

The PPM  party regulation states that if a member of the party wins the Presidency on the party ticket, that person is the head of the party.

EC said that after President Yameen’s presidency came to an end on 17 November, they are unclear on the recipient of their letters.

After President Yameen lost the Presidential Election in September, PPM has elected President Yameen as the President of the Party at an extraordinary congress along with Vice Presidents and Secretaries.

However the EC has decided not to accept the congress.
