PPM holds extraordinary congress; elects Yameen as its leader

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has held an extraordinary congress during which it elected sitting President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom as its leader.

PPM’s extraordinary congress was held at Dharubaaruge last Friday night. Members elected four to the position of deputy leader and 20 members to the council during the congress.

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdhulla, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and Minister of Legal Affairs at the President’s Office Aishath Azima Shakoor all retained their posts as deputy leaders of PPM.

And 10 females and 10 males were elected to the council.

Media was denied access to the congress.

Yameen, who has lost his bid for re-election as President of Maldives has announced he will work as the leader of the opposition after the end of his term.
