20,000 have re-registered for Presidential Elections so far

Elections Commission reports 20,000 voters have re-registered for the Presidential Elections 2018 so far.

Spokesperson and member of EC, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” this Wednesday that the commission estimates 70,000 people to re-register for the elections. He said 20,000 people have re-registered so far.

263,000 people have the right to vote for the Presidential Elections 2018. Over 490 ballot boxes will be kept throughout Maldives and abroad for the elections.

EC has said nine prospective presidential candidates have taken out application forms for the elections so far.

However, only MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer and former Vice President of Local Government Authority (LGA) Shujau Hussain have announced their intention to compete in the Presidential Elections.

Presidential Elections 2018 is scheduled to be held on September 23.
